Grass carp prefer finer leafs submerged aquatic vegetation and small floating plants like duckweed. They prefer: pondweeds, naiads, common elodea, coontail, and muskgrass. Grass carp do NOT prefer spatterdock, cattail, water lily, or species of filamentous algae. Grass carp won't bother arrowhead or water lily.

  1. Below are some of natural favorite's foods of Grass carp. Low-fibre plants are most preferred ( please refer photo No. 1 - 5)

  3. When the preferred food of the grass carp is not available, this fish feeds on terrestrial vegetation hanging over the surface of the water. In fact, the name "grass carp" comes from its unique ability to consume terrestrial grasses.
    Other terrestrial plants eaten by grass carp range from banana leaves (Musa spp.) To various dried grasses, including clippings from golf courses or similar turf areas. Caution should be exercised when feeding grass clippings to grass carp.
    Some pesticides commonly used on turf areas are quite toxic to fish. ( Please refer photo No. 9 - 11 for the favorite’s grasses & torrential vegetation from land )
  4. Farmed Carps do well with cereal brans, oil cakes, silkworm pupae and pelleted feed too as shown below;
